Becoming a more sustainable organisation has long been important to us at Johnston Mailing and a lot of time and effort has gone into determining what steps we can take to reduce our emissions and calculating the savings they will generate – and in terms of action, switching our company car fleet to full EVs was a quick win.
Another consideration was that Glasgow will be introducing a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) which will be coming into force on the 1st of June 2023 and the EV switch allows us to continue onsite client and supplier visits.
Electric fleets come with many advantages:
Cheaper to Run – The cost of electricity required to charge an electric vehicle is less than the cost of petrol or diesel used by a similar vehicle to cover the same distance.
Cheaper to Maintain – An electric vehicle has fewer moving parts than a conventional combustion engine. Hence, servicing is less frequent, easy, and cheaper.
Better for the Environment – Electric vehicles have zero exhaust emissions. Nevertheless, it should be kept in mind that they still create some greenhouse gas emissions when charged from the electricity grid.
Better for your Health – With no harmful exhaust emissions, electric vehicles reduce air pollution and thereby the associated health problems and costs. These vehicles are also quieter than their petrol/diesel counterparts, meaning less noise pollution.
